What Is An Onground Pool?
An onground pool is exactly what it sounds like: a swimming pool that is partially installed in the ground and partially installed above ground.
An onground swimming pool gives you the look and feel of an inground pool, but at a lower cost and with faster installation. Designed to partially submerge in the ground, these versatile "semi-inground" pools pair perfectly with different types of decking and are an ideal option for backyards with considerable grades.
Designed to be partially submerged in the ground, onground pools come in a variety of shapes, sizes and depths. The onground option is ideal for backyards that feature uneven ground, steep hills, slopes, or any other features that would make a traditional pool installation challenging or outright impossible. Many pool owners also find that the onground option allows them to meet city, town, or neighbourhood pool height requirements.
What Are The Benefits Of An Onground Pool?
There are so many benefits that come with an onground pool. Below are some top considerations that may make an onground pool the right choice for you:
✓ Since we install onground pools only partially in the ground, these pools do not require as much planning, time, work, or excavation that their inground pool counterparts do.
✓ Onground pools are typically more versatile for backyards, making them a better option for some landscape types. Furthermore, onground pools are typically sturdier than above ground pools and are typically constructed from super-durable, corrosion-resistant materials like aluminum and high-quality foam.
✓ Onground pools have fully insulated walls that will allow for burying. This means that your pool water will be kept warm for longer than a traditional above ground pool!
✓ With an onground pool you have the option of adjusting the height of your pool to meet with your patio or deck in your backyard—something that cannot be done with a pool that is fully inground.
✓ Some of our customers like to use the raised sides of an onground pool for bar space, water features (like waterfalls or vanishing edges), and multiple pool entry points.
✓ An onground pool offers more flexible installation options than traditional inground pools and they are typically more affordable, too.
Is An Onground Pool More Affordable Than An Inground Pool?
Although onground pools have the same durable materials as inground pools, they have a sand bottom (instead of concrete) and different backfill application. Depending on the pool design, you can make your onground pool look just as nice and easy to access as an inground pool.
Wooden decks that surround and are level with the pool give the appearance and access of an inground pool. Essentially with an onground pool you can have the look of an inground pool, for less.
What Is The Installation Timeline Like For An Onground Pool?
An onground pool requires less digging and excavation compared to an inground pool. If you are comparing the installation process and landscape of an onground pool to an inground pool, the onground pool will take much less time to construct.
Inground pools typically have additional landscaping that could involve a great deal of stonework, masonry and concrete. An onground pool is recommended with a deck surround, which can be completed within a week or couple weeks time (depending on your contractor). Install time may vary however depending on your design concept (surround finishing, water features, landscape, etc).
